Chapter 9

Whilst I was reading and trying to understand module 9 in New Perspectives – The Internet 10th edition, I felt strongly about online shopping. I felt this way because it is normalized in day-to-day life. According to an article in Yaguara.co about 2.6 billion people shop online. Shopping online is one of the most time efficient and popular ways of shopping. Whether it is something as small as batteries or something as grand as a car it is all accessible through the internet. In my case I have used the internet to mainly buy clothing and food. Although it is very safe to shop from a distance, the one issue I have with the book is the lack of warning it has for potential scammers. In my opinion the book should have ways to detect potential scammers and which sites are trusted. One experience I had in being scammed was ordering shoes that never arrived due to the seller never shipping them. I managed to get my money back, but I never obtained the shoes. A piece of advice I would offer is try to view the product in person before deciding. To conclude, I think the book does a good job explaining online shopping in detail, but it needs to update its subject matter to the current times. The book can teach the reader the many ways that scammers thrive on the internet. The terminology the book also uses is a bit outdated and can use some updates also. Overall, I would recommend the module to anyone who is interested in it, but I would tell them that the book is a bit outdated.
